Zuluk is a small village in East Sikkim, located at an altitude of around 10,000 feet. It is part of the old Silk Route that once connected India with Tibet. Today, Zuluk is known for its quiet atmosphere, mountain views, and unique winding road that attracts travelers looking for something different.
The road leading to Zuluk is one of its main highlights. With many sharp turns and bends, it offers wide views of the hills and valleys. One of the best places to stop is at Thambi View Point, where people come early in the morning to watch the sunrise. On clear days, the snow-covered peaks of the Kanchenjunga range can be seen from here.
Near Zuluk, there are a few other spots worth visiting. Nathang Valley is open and cold, often called the "Ladakh of Sikkim." Kupup Lake is shaped like an elephant and is surrounded by hills. These places are not crowded, making them perfect for quiet travel.
Zuluk is also home to a variety of birds and mountain animals. The forests around the area are full of different trees and flowers, especially during spring when the rhododendrons bloom.
If you are planning to visit, the best time is between March and May or from September to November. A travel permit is needed, as Zuluk is close to the border. This can be arranged through local travel agents or drivers. Accommodation is simple, mostly homestays run by families in the village.
Zuluk is about a 4- to 5-hour drive from Gangtok. The journey itself is beautiful, passing through green valleys and quiet mountain roads.
